#6 The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien Part 3: The Return of the King

Finally, we come to the last of the trilogy. The finale. I just want to say one more time how amazing of a writer that J.R.R. Tolkien is. The entire set is a masterpiece.

“Where will wants not, a way opens, so we say.”   -Dernhelm (Éowyn)

I believe this is the same as “where there is a will, there is a way” just phrased a little differently. That in itself is a huge motivator. If you believe in yourself and that you can accomplish the task set before you, you can find a way to achieve it. Not trying doesn’t get anybody anywhere.

“If I had! If you had!’ He said. ‘Such words and ifs are vain.” -Denethor

There is no use worrying over what could have been. You are in the here and now, the past is the past. Yes, the past makes you who you are today but there is no way to change it.

“Need brooks no delay, yet late is better than never.” -Éomer

This applies in the modern day to cars and driving. There are too many vehicle related deaths. There are times where you are late and feel the need to hurry or be more reckless but that can just lead to accidents. It’s better to be cautious and be a few minutes late than getting into a wreck and injuring or hurting yourself or others.

“For thus it is spoken: Oft hope is born, where all is forlorn.” -Legolas

For out of the darkness comes light.

“Well, here at last, dear friends, on the shores of the Sea comes the end of our fellowship in Middle-earth. Go in peace! I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.”  – Gandalf

One of my favorites. Basically signifying the end. But I like how not all tears are an evil is included in the final goodbye. As if he is saying sometimes it is alright to cry. There are tears of joy and sadness and yet neither should be frowned upon sometimes it is just needed.

This post is shorter than others because I didn’t want to regurgitate the talking points from the other two books and posts. It’s also been busy lately with job interviews and such.
